[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment said it has made a pre-announcement of legislation on the revised bill of the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act from March 14 for 40 days. 

The amendment to the sub-law of the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act is due to be implemented from June 13 this year and aims to strengthen the management of hygiene and safety of materials and products for waterworks and to improve some of the shortcomings of the system.

Hygiene and Safety standards for water-related products will be strengthened by adding one more item of nickel (0.007㎎/L) to the current 44 items of standards of hygiene and safety.

In addition, all waterworks products that come into contact with water currently must undergo a regular sanitary inspection every two years, however, certification will be invalidated if the inspection is refused without justifiable reasons.

The problems of sanitary management system of water tank and water supply pipe will be improved for strict water supply facility management.

The water tank cleaning worker has been instructed to receive training only once within one year after the water tank cleaning job was reported, but they will be instructed to regularly retrain every five years in order to strengthen hygiene management.

Also, for buildings over a certain size, the results of state inspection (two-year cycle) of water supply pipes must be made available to residents of buildings such as apartments through bulletin boards or handouts.

The Ministry of Environment plans to incorporate diverse opinions such as stakeholders and the public during the pre-announcement of legislation period and reflect them in the revised bill.
