[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Cabinet Meeting approved an amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Wildlife Protection and Management Act to prohibit the importation of endangered animals captured cruelly.  

The amendment will restrict the importation of living species stipulated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES).

In addition, the law will also restrict the importation of living species from regions where their numbers are decreasing or uncertain, which has found grounds to protect endangered animals from extinction.

As the amendment takes effect from the end of March, the imports of dolphins are prohibited if they are caught in brutal ways by the law. 

The Ministry of Environment expects that the amendment will contribute to the protection of internationally endangered species as well as contribute to the creation of a society in which humans and animals live together through the strengthening of animal welfare.
