[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment said to have agreed with the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on holding the 6th National Adaptation Plans Expo in Korea in April 2019.
The NAP Expo, which is one of the UN official international meetings held annually and started from 2013 in Germany, is a meeting to discuss climate change adaptation planning and implementation participated by policy maker from around the world.
The Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, after final consultation with the Ministry of Environment, announced Korea as the next host country on April 7 at the closing ceremony of the 5th NAP Expo in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt (April 4-6).
The Ministry of Environment plans to raise the country’s status to a higher level as a leading country in the field of climate change adaptation with this opportunity as a momentum.
Specific forum venues will be coordinated through future consultations and more than 80 countries are expected to participate in the forum.
Kim Eun-kyung, Minister of Environment, said, "With the host of this international forum, we will introduce Korea's climate change adaptation policy examples and experiences widely in the world, and support the establishment of climate change adaptation plans in developing countries.” She also said “This will ultimately contribute to strengthening the sustainability of the international community. "
