[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea National Park Service said on that a fracture operation of an Asiatic black bear, KM53, was successfully completed, which had had an accident on May 5.

KM53 was caught for treatment on May 11, and on May 17, from 1 pm to 12 pm, underwent an operation for combined fracture of the left shoulder to the elbow. ​

It is the first time in the world that an operation for compound bone fracture has been performed on an adult of Asiatic black bears that live in the wild state such as KM53.

"The rehabilitation will be carried out after the completion of the treatment," said an official of the Korea National Park Service. "Whether or not it will be re-released will be decided by consultation with experts based on the status of the species, such as maintaining wildlife."
