[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment signed a voluntary agreement with 2 Korean major confectionery brands, the Paris Baguette and Tous les Jours, and the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements, to reduce the use of disposable products on July 2.
Currently, the bakery’s free offer of disposable plastic bag is not regulated, but the two companies have signed the voluntary agreement to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags in consideration of the seriousness of environmental pollution.
Under the agreement, the two companies are planning to gradually reduce the amount of using plastic bags.
Paris Baguette plans to cut the use of plastic shopping bags by more than 90% by the end of the year, and Tous les Jours by 80% by January next year.
The two companies also plans to increase the use of recycled paper bags.
“Regulations are needed to reduce disposable items, but voluntary involvement of companies and consumers is of utmost importance,” said an official from the Ministry of Environment. “We ask all the public to pay attention to the environment-friendly lifestyle that reduces the use of disposable products.”
