[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that it will improve the 'Current Weather in Major Cities' and 'Current Weather in My Town' services provided through its website by focusing on the forecast of precipitation.

The current service has observed and displayed various weather information such as sky state (sunny, cloudy, etc.), precipitation, thunderstorm and mist every 60 minutes.

However, it has been pointed out that the information is not expressed correctly in the ‘Current Weather in Major Cities’ when precipitation occurs between observations.

The improved 'Current Weather in Major Cities' and 'Current Weather in My Town' will allow to more quickly identify the current precipitation through the use of automatic weather observation equipment (AWS) data.

The service will provide the information on precipitation, temperature, and wind direction/wind speed every 10 minutes.

In addition, the 'Current Weather in My Town', which is provided for more than 3,500 administrative dong offices across the country, will shorten the data processing process, which initially took 8 to 9 minutes, and provide it within 5 minutes.

“We hope that this service, which has been improved so that it can confirm the local rain showers and whimsical rain phenomenon more quickly in the summer, will greatly improve the satisfaction of the citizens,” said the Administrator of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
