[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Ministry of Environment (Minister Eun-Kyung Kim) will attend the 6th High-level Political Forum held at United Nations Headquarters (New York City, USA) from July 16th to 19th.
The High-level Political Forum, which started in 2013, is a meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters in July each year to assess the implementation status of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to provide international guidelines.
The theme of this year is transition to a sustainable and resilient society. The forum will review the implementation of each of the six UN Sustainable Development Goals and adopt a ministerial declaration.
Minister Eun-Kyung Kim will explain the various measures the Moon Jae-in government is pursuing to enhance Korea's sustainability.
In particular, the Minister will emphasize that measures to unify water management and convert eco-friendly energy are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, the Minister plans to inform the international community of the goal of Korean-style Sustainable Development (K-SDGs), which is being established based on extensive public participation this year.
“This United Nations High-level Political Forum provides the opportunity to inform the international community about the various innovative measures taken by the Korean government to transform into a sustainable society,” said Minister Eun-Kyung Kim. “Through the successful establishment and implementation of K-SDGs, we will make efforts to become a leading country in sustainable development in the international society.”
