[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (KCDC) called on the public to thoroughly observe the precautionary measures for the prevention of hand-foot-and-mouth disease as the outbreak of hand-foot-and-mouth disease has increased greatly.
According to a result of analyzing hand-foot-and-mouth disease samples among 95 medical institutions in the country, the number of hand-foot-and-mouth disease patient in 26th week in 2018 marked 16.2 (per 1,000 outpatients), 27th week 24.9, and 28th week 27.5. It is predicted that the number of patient will continue to rise until the end of August.
It is a disease that restores naturally after 7-10 days after symptom onset, and prevention of infection can be possible if personal hygiene, such as proper hand washing, is thoroughly observed.
The KCDC said it is necessary for kindergartens to pay attention to preventive measures by washing hands and cleanly managing toys in order to prevent the outbreak of hand-foot-and-mouth disease, as it is an infectious disease that occurs frequently in infants and young children.
