'치과용 아말감에 사용되는 수은 저감화 추진'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said that it will carry forward a plan to reduce the use of mercury by 2019, which prohibits the manufacture and import of powder or refined alloy used for dental amalgam.

The measure is based on the Minamata Convention on Mercury, which is designed to prevent the abuse of mercury, such as the prevention of surplus mercury, by mixing the amalgam alloy and a certain amount of mercury in capsules just before making the dental amalgam.

The measure bans manufacturing and importing of powder or refined alloys used for dental amalgam from January 2019, and only capsule-type dental amalgam can be manufactured, imported, and used from January 2020. Products that are produced and imported by December of 2018 are available for sale and use by December of 2019.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as collected opinions from experts as well as manufacturers and importers and plans to pursue policies to reduce the use of mercury for public health.
