[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Information disclosure and safety management of products containing natural radioactive materials such as radon will be strengthened.

Rep. Song Ok-joo of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea has proposed a partial revision of the Electrical Appliances and Consumer Products Safety Control Act to strengthen the disclosure of information and safety management of products containing natural radioactive materials.

The revision provides a basis for providing information on the amount of products manufactured and imported including radon and other natural radioactive materials by incorporating products subject to safety certification that are deemed to be harmful to consumers' lives and bodies.

“We need to strengthen the management of radon that is a class one carcinogen causing lung cancer. We hope that this amendment will satisfy consumers’ right to know about household goods including radioactive materials such as radon,” said Rep. Song Ok-joo.
