[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The opening ceremony of the 48th General Assembly of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) began on October 1 at 10 p.m. at Songdo Convention in Incheon. A total of 570 representatives of government and international organizations from 135 countries attended the opening ceremony.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is an international organization co-founded by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Program in 1988 to provide an assessment report on climate change, impacts and response policies. Five evaluation reports have been written so far and a total of 195 member countries are participating.

The meeting, scheduled for October 5th, will review a summary for policymakers of the "Special Report on Global Warming 1.5°C" and will adopt it with the consent of all the Member States.

The adopted report will be used as the main scientific basis for the Talanoa Dialogue at the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) held in Katowice, Poland, from 2 to 14 December.
