The new species of bacteria discovered this time are Bacillus sp. nov., Pseudomonas sp. nov., Brevibacterium sp. nov., Rahnella sp. nov., Kluyvera sp. nov., Shewanella sp. nov., Burkholderia sp. nov.

According to the researchers, the discovery of seven new species means that the diversity of bacteria living in Dokdo is not low, despite the harsh environment of strong winds and lacking nutrients.

“Research on biodiversity of Dokdo, which is difficult for researchers to approach due to its geographical specificity, is a very important research for the preservation and utilization of Dokdo's biological resources,” said a researcher of the National Institute of Biological Resources. “We will continue to explore Dokdo's biological resources and biodiversity research.”
