'2027년까지 멸종위기 25종 복원'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment announced that the comprehensive plan for the conservation of endangered wildlife has been established.

The comprehensive plan includes measures that take into account the fundamental aspects of restoration of endangered species, such as the assessment, analysis and improvement of habitat, away from the restoration of endangered species, and aims to restore 25 species by 2027.

Among the total 267 endangered species, 64 species including the Asiatic black bear that is currently being restored will be selected as the target of restoration and 25 will be selected as the priority target species.

In addition, the Ministry of Environment plans to improve the habitat environment by evaluating and analyzing endangered species nationwide. Each species' climate change vulnerability will be assessed in conjunction with the climate change scenario, and new habitat will be explored and preserved for possible habitat variation.

The government plans to establish an integrated management system for the restoration of endangered species by establishing the Endangered Species Restoration Center, a key organization for promoting conservation policies.

“It has been 15 years since the Ministry of Environment implemented a policy to preserve species starting with the restoration of the Asiatic black bears,” said an official of the Ministry of the Environment. “With the comprehensive plan, the Ministry of Environment has sought to address the social demand in the comprehensive plan to convert species conservation policies into habitat conservation centered policies.”
