[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Minister of Environment announced at the 3rd Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia and the Pacific held in Singapore from January 24 that the 4th Forum will be held in Korea in 2020.
The Forum, which is hosted by the UNEP, is a preparation meeting for the Asia-Pacific region, and representatives of 41 governments, international organizations, and private organizations gather to discuss and share opinions on environmental issues in the region.
More than 500 people from 41 countries are expected to attend the 4th Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific, and the host city in Korea will be finalized within this year.
2020 is expected to be a meaningful year for preparation for a new start in various environmental areas such as climate change, biodiversity and chemical management as the Paris Agreement will launch in 2021.
At the 3rd Forum held for 2 days, the Minister participated in a ministerial-level panel discussion on sustainable consumption and production policies in the Asia-Pacific region and introduced Korea's example, including efforts to build a resource-circulating society by utilizing cooperation among civil society, businesses, public and government and the establishment of national sustainable development goals (K-SDGs).
“I felt that the countries of the Asia-Pacific region were greatly expecting the environmental leadership of Korea,” said the Minister of Environment. “The next ministerial meeting will raise Korea's status in the field of environment and help Korea's environmental technology and industry advance into the Asia-Pacific region.”
