[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport held an on-site inspection meeting on May 24 on the drawing up of a 96 billion won supplementary budget bill to reduce the fine dust in the underground station of the national railroad.

As the government established and implemented a joint ‘plan to improve air quality of underground station’ three times since 2008, the concentration of fine dust in underground history has been reduced by about 28% (97→69㎍/㎥).

In particular, the revised enforcement regulations of the Indoor Air Quality Control Act will be in effect since July this year, strengthening the criteria for fine dust (PM10) in underground stations (150 → 100μg/㎥) and establishing a new standard (50μg/㎥ or less) for ultrafine dust (PM2.5).

Accordingly, in order to create the underground station air quality that is in accordance with the strengthened standards, more aggressive improvement measures are needed, such as the improvement of old air conditioners and the installation of air purifiers in underground stations, and an extra budget plan has been drawn up as part of the plan.
