[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it will expand subsidies from 160,000 won to 200,000 won when replacing old boilers with eco-friendly condensing boilers that are effective in reducing fine dust, and will greatly increase the number of beneficiaries from 12,500 to 50,000.
According to a 2016 report by the Seoul Institute, the heating and power generation sector accounted for 39% of the fine dust generated in Seoul.
Seoul has been subsidizing the replacement of old boilers used for more than 10 years, but the scope of support will be expanded regardless of the boiler year.
In addition, subsidies have been provided only if the landlord is a citizen of Seoul, but will be provided for all buildings in the city regardless of their resident registration site.
Seoul will replace 900,000 old boilers out of 3.63 million household boilers, more than 10 years out of 3.63 million household boilers, with eco-friendly condensing boilers by 2022, to dramatically reduce the generation of fine dust in the heating sector.
