[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Water Management Committee held the first meeting on August 27 and began its activities.

The National Water Management Committee was launched in accordance with the Framework Act on Water Management enacted in 2018 to review and resolve national water management master plans and important water-related policies and issues, and to reconcile water disputes.

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and Huh Jae-young, president of Chungnam State University, are co-chairmen and a total of 39 members include representatives from various fields including academia and civil society related to water management.

The National Water Management Committee was briefed on the 'National Water Management Committee Operation Plan' and reviewed and decided on the operating regulations.

The committee organizes and operates a total of three subcommittees (① plan, ② water dispute settlement, ③ policy).

Through in-depth discussions, the Committee decided to set a vision and objectives for water management policies that incorporate existing water-related policies (plans), and suggest strategies for achieving them. In addition, it plans to draw up tasks for each sector, such as water environment (water quality and aquatic ecology), water use (quantity), disaster prevention (flood and drought prevention), and underground water management.
