[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Owners who damaged the Green Belt Zone by installing illegal buildings and operating restaurants around valleys in Seoul have been caught.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government said they have detected 13 illegal restaurants and sent them to the prosecution after conducting a crackdown on valleys in the Green Belt Zone of Mt. Bukhan and Mt. Surak from August to October.

Under the current law, the building and use of buildings, the change of land quality, the deforestation (unauthorized logging), and the accumulation of goods, etc. in the Green Belt Zone are prohibited, except in exceptional cases with the permission of the head of the competent local government.

In case of illegal construction of a temporary building in the Green Belt Zones for commercial purposes, it will be sentenced to up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.
