Monitoring of VOCs to be strengthened by using drones'무인기 활용으로 VOCs 감시 강화'

[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Environment Corporation under the Ministry of Environment signed a business agreement with the Korea Drone Industry Promotion Association on January 7 to establish a drone operation base for detecting volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The main contents of the agreement include the development of monitoring methods for pollutant emission sources using unmanned aerial vehicles, the introduction of the latest drone technology (communication and battery technologies), the preparation of a program to train operating personnel for drones and the standardization of drones in Korea.

The Korea Environment Corporation plans to apply the new drone technology, which was researched and developed by the Korea Drone Industry Promotion Association, to unmanned aerial vehicles for optical gas detection, and conduct demonstration tests in the field, including crude oil refining facilities.

“The need for efficient information gathering techniques to reduce air pollutants has recently been highlighted,” said an official from the Korea Environment Corporation. “With the agreement, we will introduce the latest drone technology at the industrial complex and make efforts to foster professionals.”
