[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment plans to apply the standards for air pollutant discharge more than twice as much as the current one, starting January 1, 2019, to 31 business sites in four industries that produce large amounts of fine dust such as coal-fired power plants.

Air pollutants with enhanced emission standards are dust, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur oxides that generate fine dust (PM2.5).

The target sites are coal-fired power plants, iron and steel, petroleum refining, and cement manufacturing, which produce large amounts of fine dust.

Coal power plants (37,276 tons) emit 77% of the total dust emissions of the entire power plant (48,635 tons).

In addition, the Ministry of Environment plans to implement various policies to reduce fine dust at workplaces, such as managing exhaust gas emissions through unmanned airplanes (drones) and monitoring the operation of small-scale business facilities using IoT.
