[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment recently said that it is using the drone for the first time in the survey on the distribution of endangered wildlife plant areas that researchers can not directly observe.

The drone has been used for observation of the changes in the distribution of conifers and dead wood in the field of biological resource, but this is the first time to target endangered species.

The research team of the National Institute of Biological Resources took a video of the distribution of endangered wildlife Ⅱ class plant, such as Euryale Ferox, watershield plant and Swamp Shield-fern in the Nakdong River estuary, East coast lagoon and Jeju island coast, and analyzed related images.

Since these endangered plants live in swamps, lakes, and beaches, they have been difficult to access and have not been able to obtain accurate information such as the area of distribution.

The National Institute of Biological Resources plans to steadily introduce cutting-edge technologies such as drone shooting to the endangered species survey to obtain accurate information for conservation and restoration of endangered species.
