[The Hwankyung Ilbo] While the government has announced a plan to abolish the restriction on the use of LPG cars to reduce fine dust, a budget of 5.7 billion won will be invested next year to support the conversion of children’s school bus to LPG vehicles.

According to data from the Ministry of Environment, the total budget for the project to support the conversion of children’s school bus to LPG vehicles next year amounted to 5.7 billion won, up 26.2 percent from about 4.5 billion won this year.

LGP conversion project, which has been implemented to protect the health of children and to reduce fine dust generated by diesel cars, provides up to 5 million won for owner of school buses who buys a new LPG car when they close their old diesel vehicles. The government plans to supply 9,000 LPG cars by 2020.

“About 89,000 vehicles are currently used as children's commuter vehicles nationwide, and about 97 percent of them are diesel cars,” said lawmaker Shin Chang-hyun. “We need to carry out the fine dust reduction project actively to protect children's health.”
