[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on May 8 that it has selected 8 major areas including Baekmi Port in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, as the target of the ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’.

The government plans to foster the fishing village new deal brand in 2019 by designating 8 major areas, where natural scenery is excellent, the size of the project is large and development effectiveness is expected to be high, among target sites of the ‘Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project’.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries plans to preemptively build social overhead capital (SOC) such as waiting rooms, dockyards and safety facilities at the 8 leading sites.

To facilitate the 8 leading projects, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will form a consultative body with local governments and experts, and thoroughly check the progress of the projects.

“We will work with local governments to help the 8 leading projects in the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project become a success model for innovative fishing villages and fishing ports,” said an official from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
