[The Hwankyung Ilbo] As climate change has affected the weather patterns on the Korean Peninsula, the Meteorological Administration plans to enhance the weather and earthquake warning system.

Following the administration’s plans, weather information concerning heavy rain and heavy snow will be spread faster. The authorities will establish a new heavy rain warning criteria, which are optimized to prevent disasters, taking into consideration the recent trend of local heavy rains and the damages caused by the heavy rain.

The authorities will build one on one communication system with major press media, and updated weather information will be posted on its homepage promptly.

In addition, the Meteorological Administration will improve the system that observes, analyzes, and alert authorities of seismic activities in order to minimize the damage from unpredictable earthquakes.

The time that is taken for the administration to issue an earthquake warning will be shortened to 7 seconds. And it needs 10 more seconds for the warning issued to be delivered to the public through text messages.
