[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that the production of deep-sea fishery from January to June this year was 255,000 tons, increased by 12% from 228,000 tons in the previous year.

The production of bonito(38%↑), saury(38%↑), cod(62%↑) and toothfish(20%↑) has increased significantly over the previous year, while the production of squid(26%↓), pollack(34%↓), and yellowfin tuna(11%↓) has decreased.

The increase in production of bonito, which is the number one item in the deep-sea fishery production, is attributed to the fact that our fishing vessels expanded fishing fields to neighboring waters.

“If the current trend continues in the second half of this year, the production of deep-sea fishery is expected to be 550,000 ~ 650,000 tons, which is higher than 450,000 tons of last year,” said an official from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. “We will continue to do our utmost to secure a stable fishing environment for Korean fishing vessels operating in the ocean, and to smoothly supply marine products.”
