[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Meteorological Administration announced that they will launch a geostationary satellite 2A (Chollian Satellite 2A) at the Guiana Space Center on December 5.

The Chollian Satellite 2A has completed its 50 days of functional inspection, fuel injection, and assembly of projectiles at the Guiana Space Center and is now loaded on Arianespace's Ariane -5 projectile.

The satellite utilizes the world's best meteorological payloads, and provides high-resolution color images with a resolution four times higher than that of Chollian Satellite 1 every 10 minutes (every two minutes at risk).

In high-resolution color images, it is possible to distinguish between 'cloud' and 'smoke, yellow dust, volcanic ash' and the accuracy of weather analysis will be improved.

In addition, it is expected that the accuracy of tracing the movement path of the typhoon will be improved as the center of the typhoon can be tracked.

The satellite will provide more advanced weather service from July next year through initial operation process for about 6 months after launch.
