[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment will carry out special monitoring and crackdown activities focusing on the work places for the discharge of environmental pollutants in order to prevent acts of environmental pollution in advance during the Chuseok holiday (September 12-15).

Special monitoring and enforcement targets include 3,900 environmental pollutant discharge sites and 860 environmental basic facilities (such as public sewage treatment facilities), major industrial complexes, and upstream areas of water supplies.

This special monitoring and crackdown will be carried out in three stages before and after the holiday period. During the first stage, September 2-11, a pre-promotion campaign will be carried out before conducting a special crackdown on areas of concern for pollution.

The second stage, September 12-15, will be prepared for environmental pollution by operating situation rooms, strengthening patrols in vulnerable areas (industrial complexes, water supply streams and rivers, and etc.), and operating environmental pollution reporting windows during the holidays.

In the third stage, September 16-20, technical support will be provided to small and vulnerable companies to ensure normal operation of the pollutant prevention facility after the shutdown of the environmental pollutant treatment facility during the holiday season.
