[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Assembly held a plenary session on May 28 and passed amendments to the government's organizational law related to the unification of water management.

The amendment contains the contents of leaving the river management work in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport among water management works that were dealt with by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment. Water resources utilization and development are integrated into the Ministry of Environment.

Even though the law has passed the National Assembly, civic groups are expected to continue to criticize for retaining of the river management work in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The management of rivers cannot be separated from the water resources and water quality,” said the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement.
