[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Analysis on the causes of the high density of fine dust (PM2.5) that occurred from March 22nd to 27th showed that the contribution rate from abroad starting from 57% in the 22nd, increased to 69% in the 23rd, and gradually decreased.

The National Institute of Environmental Research and the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment analyzed and announced the causes of the high concentration of fine dust from March 22nd to 27th, including the 26th and the 27th, when the fourth and fifth emergency fine dust reduction measures were taken. 

The National Institute of Environmental Research analyzed that after the influx of foreign fine dust on March 22nd and 24th, the effect of domestic emission increased during the morning of March 25th and 26th, and the secondary dust generation led to the high concentration of fine dust.

The Institute said that the main cause of the high concentration of dust in January (from January 15th~18th) was domestically generated fine dust due to the atmospheric congestion. However, the high concentration of fine dust in March 22nd to 27th was due to the combined effects of domestic and foreign fine dust.
