[The Hwankyung Ilbo] Carbon point system pilot project will be promoted this year with the aim of formal introduction in 2019. Vehicle carbon point system is a system that gives Carbon points worth up to 100,000 won if the eco-friendly operation results such as shortening the driving distance are confirmed.

The carbon point pilot project was launched last year to spread greenhouse gas reduction and environment friendly driving practice culture.

This year's second pilot project will be held on a first-come-first-served basis by December, and applicants can apply on the website (car.cpoint.or.kr.).

Depending on the driving information collection method, participants can choose one method among On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) method and the photo method.

The OBD method is a method of estimating mileage and eco-friendly driving performance by installing the OBD terminal provided by the Korea Environment Corporation in a vehicle.

The photo method is a method of calculating the reduction performance compared to the past driving distance when the participant transmits a photograph of the vehicle dashboard after the participation time and the end.

The Ministry of Environment is planning to analyze the results of the pilot project last year and this year to prepare operating regulations and to introduce the 'vehicle carbon point system' from 2019.
