[The Hwankyung Ilbo] If the facility discharging persistent organic pollutants such as dioxin exceeds the allowable standard, the government will be able to order immediate suspension of operation.

The revised Persistent Organic Pollutants Control Act, which includes such details, passed the National Assembly plenary session on May 28.

The current law allows the government to issue correction order to the facilities that violate dioxin emission standards within one year. Even if the facilities do not implement the order, the government is able to order suspension of operation only the facilities exceed the emission standards.   

There are about 1,360 dioxin emission facilities in 2017, and 70 workplaces have violated the dioxin emission standard for the past five years. Of these, 12 are repeatedly exceeded the standard more than twice.
