[The Hwankyung Ilbo] A revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act will come into force from June 13.

The amendment focuses on the regulations of the correction of defects in water products and on the strengthening related sanitary safety standards.

Procedures have been set up to advise or order operators of recall actions for water-based products that are unsuitable for sanitary safety standards.

Previously, when water products were judged to be unsuitable for sanitary safety standards in periodic and occasional inspections, the Ministry of Environment issued a recall order after the cancellation of the certification, but it took 30 days to cancel the certification.

The amendment requires the Ministry of Environment to notify the reasons for the recall and the detailed procedures for the recall to the company, even before the cancellation of the certification, and the company must submit a plan of implementation for recall to the Ministry of Environment.

The amendment has strengthened sanitary safety standards of water products. The nickel concentration has been added to the current 44 sanitary safety standard items.

In addition, kindergarten has been included in education facility targeted for water rate reduction.
