[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment, Seoul Metropolitan Government, Incheon Metropolitan City and Gyeonggi Province held a policy discussion to resolve the fine dust problem and agreed to strengthen cooperation.
The heads of the three metropolitan governments suggested the budget increase for the early retirement of old diesel cars, the establishment of a special law on fine dust and the settlement of prices between gasoline and diesel.
In addition, they agreed to cooperate with each other in order to achieve an enhanced fine dust environment standard (annual average of 15μg /㎥) in the metropolitan area and strengthen cooperation with other cities and provinces throughout the country.
It was agreed to actively encourage the participation of private companies in order to enhance the effectiveness of the emergency fine dust reduction measures implemented mainly in public operation sites and construction sites.
Currently, 39 out of 126 private workplaces with TMS installed in the metropolitan area are voluntarily participating in emergency reduction measures, but administrative guidance will be provided in city and province so that other businesses can participate.
With this meeting, the Ministry of Environment and the three cities and province plans to hold the semiannual meeting and to discuss and cooperate widely on the major environmental issues at the monthly managerial level meeting.
