[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment announced that it would revise the Enforcement Decree of the Clean Air Conservation Act to strengthen the management of sites that generate high concentrations of fugitive dust.

The amendment will be applied from 2019 to the construction sites and power plants that generate fugitive dust (about 44,000 in total nationwide, as of the end of 2017), in order to reduce the cause of high concentration of fine dust.

Under the amendment, the management target of the fugitive dust generation business will be expanded from currently 41 industries to 45 industries.

If included in the fugitive dust generation business, the business operators should notify the local governments concerned and install anti-dust walls, water spraying facilities, etc. in order to reduce the generation of dust, and properly manage dust generation processes such as transportation.

In addition, the management of the dust particles (paint residues) that occur when painting at construction sites will be strengthened.

The Ministry of Environment expects to reduce 2,702 tons (6.5 percent) out of 41,502 tons of fine dust generated annually from construction dust and construction machines.

"As fugitive dust is difficult to control once it occurs, it is important to thoroughly manage facilities so that dust particles do not occur as much as possible," said an official from the Environment Ministry.
