[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Institute of Biological Resources under the Ministry of Environment conducted a simultaneous census of birds at 80 major wetlands throughout the country from October 19 to 21 this year and announced that a total of 176 species and 455,101 winter birds have arrived.

Compared to the census results for the same region in October last year, the total population increased 1.2 times from 382,919.

Similar to October last year, winter migratory birds have arrived in the central part of the Korean Peninsula, including Gyeonggi, Gangwon, and Chungnam. In the early part of the winter, more migratory birds appeared in the central region of the country.

“We plan to provide the results to relevant agencies and post them on the Migratory Bird Information System(species.nibr.go.kr/bird) so that they can be used for bird flu prevention,” said a director of the National Institute of Biological Resources.
