[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment will launch a special investigation team on June 4 to root out illegal waste disposal that is taking place nationwide.

The special investigation team will consist of prosecutors dispatched from the Ministry of Justice and special judicial police officers affiliated with the Ministry of Environment investigating environmental crimes, and will conduct cooperative investigations with police and the Korea Customs Service, if necessary.

“We will mobilize all available personnel and advanced investigation techniques, including digital forensics analysis, to sternly punish those responsible for illegal waste activities,” said an official from the Ministry of Environment. “We will also work with the police, the Korea Customs Service and other related agencies to find out every detail of the distribution structure behind the illegal waste and punish it severely to prevent the recurrence of similar crimes.”
