[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The National Institute of Biological Resources will publish a comprehensive statistics on biodiversity in Korea and the status of 50,827 species of native organisms.

This year's statistical book selected the table of contents according to the biodiversity and biological resources statistics, and covers the status of the native species classification, the statistics of each ministry's protection and management, and the status of the protected areas of the natural environment.

In particular, the statistical book presented the current status of family-level classifications for 50,827 species that were compiled as of Dec. 31, 2018.

The 50,827 species were classified into 3,841 families.

“With this statistical book, we can get a glimpse of the current state of biodiversity in Korea,” said Bae, Yeon Jae, President of the National Institute of Biological Resources. “The number of species on the Korean Peninsula is estimated to be around 100,000, with about half of the information being obtained.”
