[The Hwankyung Ilbo] National Recreation Forest Management Office of the Korea Forest Service said it will carry out a project to create the largest national natural recreation forest in earnest in Sinsi island, Gunsan, Jeollabuk-do. 

As Gunsan City was designated as a special zone for industrial and employment crisis response last year, the total cost of creating a recreational forest increased to 23 billion won from 8.6 billion won. 

Sinsi island has a beautiful natural landscape. In order to protect the natural environment, the government plans to ban all internal combustion engine vehicles in the recreation forest and introduce electric shuttle cars. 

To revitalize the local economy in Gunsan, the project first selected construction, equipment companies and materials as local companies. In the future, the government plans to seek ways to co-exist with local residents in diverse ways, including selecting local forest management personnel, running a sales office for local special products and providing a place for food trucks for youth start-ups.
