[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced the names, hazards and risks of new chemical substances manufactured and imported last year, and measures to prevent workers' health problems.

A total of 316 new chemical substances were announced, of which 94 were confirmed to have harmful effects such as acute toxicity and skin irritation.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor has ordered for workplaces where the materials are handled to take measures, such as providing protective gear and establishing ventilation facilities, in order to protect workers who handle the new chemical substances.

Material safety data sheets including names of chemical substances and products, hazards, first aid skills and handling precautions should be posted and kept by the employer in a place where workers can easily see them.

"This announcement is meaningful in that it informs not only the workers but also the general public of hazards and risks of the new chemical substances," said an officer of the Ministry of Employment and Labor. "We want employers to take necessary measures to prevent workers' health problems.”
