[The Hwankyung Ilbo] A bill has been proposed for construction machinery to be subjected to exhaust gas inspection like general trucks, in order to reduce fine dust.

Shin Chang-hyun of the Democratic party of Korea has proposed some amendments to the Clean Air Conservation Act and the Construction Machinery Management Act, which require 27 types of construction machinery to go through vehicle exhaust gas inspection.

Currently, the amount of fine dust emitted from non-road pollution sources including 487,318 construction machines registered nationwide reaches 51,355 tons a year. This means that the machines emit approximately 140 tons of fine dust everyday, 16% of the nation’s total.

The amount of fine dust from the construction machinery is the second largest part of the total amount of fine dust, following that of fine dust generated in the manufacturing combustion process (199 tons / day, 22%), which is more than the diesel car (96 tons / day, 11%).

However, according to the current law, only regular inspections are carried out on three kinds of road construction equipment (dump truck, concrete mixer truck, pump car) that frequently operate in the downtown area.
