[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that it has concluded a business agreement with telecommunication companies (SKT‧KT‧LG U +) for quick and future-oriented earthquake and tsunami disaster message service.

Based on the agreement, the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) starts a service to send emergency messages such as earthquakes from the Korea Meteorological Agency directly without going through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

From June 2018, forced reception service of emergency message for the earthquake of 6.0 or more earthquake, and message service including behavior in the event of an earthquake will be provided.

“By working with mobile operators to provide more rapid earthquake information to the public, and by providing a sustainable earthquake disaster message service base on the next generation of communication technology, 5G, the Korea Meteorological Administration will do our best to protect the public and minimize damage,” said an official of the Korea Meteorological Administration.
