[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it had completed the safety diagnosis for 5,780 facilities in marine and fishery areas such as fishing boats, fishing harbors, fishing ports and passenger ships for 67 days from February 5 to April 13.

Safety diagnosis is a preventive activity to check and improve the safety management of the whole society by participation of central government, local governments, public institutions and citizens. It has been implemented annually since 2015.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries cooperated with local government, maritime police and ship inspection agencies to thoroughly check fishing vessels registered with the local government. In addition, fire safety inspections were carried out for multi-use facilities such as passenger ship terminals and dangerous goods loading and unloading facilities.

According to the results of the large-scale diagnosis, problems were found out in 915 places (about 16%) out of the 5,870 facilities. Of these, 897 places were given corrective instructions such as on-site measures, maintenance and reinforcement. In addition, precise diagnosis will be carried out for 18 sites because cracks were found. The results of inspection by facilities will be made public on the website of the administrative agency such as local regional offices of oceans and fisheries.
