The Democratic Party lawmaker Shin Chang-hyun has proposed a bill to revise some of the Act on Protective Action Guidelines against Radiation in the Natural Environment, which prohibits the use of radioactive materials, including monazite, in products that people use frequently in their daily lives.

The current law does not specify the category of processed products that can use radioactive materials such as monazite, and radioactive materials are widely included in everyday household goods such as some warm mat and health bracelet.

The amendment prohibits the manufacture, import and export of household goods containing radioactive materials and the violation of this prohibition imposes penalties of up to 30 million won.
