A member of the National Assembly, Song Ok-joo, initiated a revised bill on the Water Environment Conservation Act on August 10 that fundamentally blocks the illegal manipulation of water quality measurement values.

The main contents of the amendment include prohibition of duplication of operation of water treatment facility and water quality measurement service and punishment in case of violation, disclosure of water quality measurement value, and establishment of water quality measurement equipment association.

“The operation of water treatment facilities and the measurement of water quality should be separated,” said the lawmaker, Song Ok-joo. "The revised bill stipulated that a company would not be able to operate the wastewater treatment plant and measure water quality at the same time."
