Rep. Kim Sung-hwan of the Democratic Party said, "Analysis of the data submitted by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation (KHNP) and Korea Electric Power Exchange (KEPCO) revealed that 17 trillion won of national losses have been incurred due to faulty construction, faulty materials, and corruption in nuclear power plants.

Rep. Kim said, “Over the past six years, the total number of shutdowns caused by poorly managed nuclear power plants has reached 5568 days, the total national loss amounts to about 17 trillion won.”

"The cracks in key facilities due to the use of non-performing materials, corrosion on metal plates and concrete holes in containment buildings due to poor construction are serious problems that threaten the safety of the people," he said.
