[The Hwankyung Ilbo] According to a survey of 33 disposable cotton swabs distributed and sold in the market by Korea Consumer Agency, six products (18.2%) were found to contain general bacteria (in rive products) and fluorescent dyes (in one product) exceeding the standard value. 

The five products were inadequate because they exceeded the standard (less than 300 CFU / g) by at least 1.1 times (335 CFU/g) to a maximum of 1206.7 times (362 thousand CFU/g), and the one product had fluorescent dyes that should not be detected.

In addition, formaldehyde (61mg/kg) was detected in one product, but currently there is no formaldehyde standard in disposable cotton swabs.

Nine products (27.3%) were inadequate for the labeling criteria, and three products (9.1%) were falsely labeled (one product was duplicated).

Based on the results of the survey, the Korea Consumer Agency recommended voluntary recall and suspension of sale of non-conforming products, and improvement of product labelling.
