[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Rural Development Administration announced that it will conduct a six-day training program for rice researchers from 19 member countries under the Korea-Africa Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KAFACI) in Senegal, Africa.

This training was designed to select rice species that are high in yield and resistant to disease among rice cultivars of the Rural Development Administration.

In July of last year, the Rural Development Administration established the Rice Breeding Laboratory at the African Rice Research Institute and cultivated 548 types last year and 4,027 types this year.

The experts will conduct a productivity test to select 346 types and take the rice to each country for regional adaptation tests.

“This training is expected to contribute a lot to achieving rice self-sufficiency and solving food problems by transferring Korea's advanced rice breeding technology to major African rice producing countries,” said an official of the Rural Development Administration.
