[The Hwankyung Ilbo] The Ministry of Environment is working on a project to provide subsidies for purchase of electric-motorcycle to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but it has been found that it has failed to meet its goal every year.

According to the data submitted to Rep. Shin Chang-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Environment has aimed to supply 6,710 electric motorcycles over the past three years, but only 4,881 units have been distributed.

Given that the Ministry of Environment planned to supply 50,000 units nationwide by 2022 in September 2017 under the comprehensive measures for fine dust management, it is unlikely to achieve the goal.

Motorcycles emit nitrogen oxides, a substance that causes fine dust, six times that of small cars. This is because the fuel is not completely burned and a causes large amount of harmful ingredients.
