"For Net Zero, we're looking for ways to use biofuels and other alternative energy sources."

[Four Seasons Hotel=The Hwankyung Ilbo] Reporter Hyun Jin Lim = A symposium on the role of biofuels in the ongoing climate crisis and carbon neutral era was held at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul Nuri Ballroom on the morning of July 12th. It was hosted and organized by the Environment Daily News, the U.S. Embassy in Korea, and the U.S. Grains Council.

Lee Mi-hwa, the publisher of the Environment Daily, said in her opening speech, "In order to reach the state of Net Zero, we need to find a way to integrate and utilize various energy sources in harmony." 

Biofuels are fuels made by pyrolyzing or fermenting plants, recycled edible oil, and livestock waste, which are energy sources of bioenergy, she added. "It can greatly reduce carbon dioxide emissions compared to traditional petroleum energy."

She expected that, "I hope today's international symposium will be an opportunity to share various opinions on the role of biofuels, the methods to realize carbon neutrality, and reflect on practical policies."
